WKU launched its first Distance Learning Topper Orientation Program (DL TOP) this fall, after completing a pilot program over the summer.
WKU Online, in collaboration with the Admissions Office, Topper Orientation Program, Academic Technology and advisors from across campus, developed DL TOP, which can be completed 100% online, for undergraduate students with campus location “web.” DL TOP equips distance learners with specific information about studying at a distance – what to expect and what is required – as well as advising information. All without requiring travel to campus.
Here’s what you can expect:
- DL TOP has a secure sign-in through TopNet. Once the student signs in, they select “Topper Orientation Program (TOP) Students” from the main menu, then “Distance Learning Orientation (DL TOP for online students)” to get started.
- Once DL TOP is completed, the advisor will receive an automated email that provides verification of completion, along with the student’s id number, major, site location and contact information. The subject line of this email will specify DL TOP, so the advisor will immediately be aware that this is a distance learner.
- The student will also receive an automated email with their advisor’s information, along with some helpful links and a downloadable resource guide for distance learners.
Faculty and advisors who would like to go through DL TOP, may do so at any time by visiting www.wku.edu/dltop; the downloadable booklet students receive at the end can be found at http://www.wku.edu/dltop/dl_orientation_booklet.pdf.
Students must login through TopNet and follow instructions to receive credit for completing the orientation.
If you do decide to go through the orientation, we would love to hear from you – we’re always looking for opportunities to improve and expand the information we provide, so please don’t hesitate to email your questions, comments or suggestions to firstname.lastname@example.org or call 270-745-4087.
